Medical Needling

Medical needling, also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT),  or microneedling is an option for skin rejuvenation that has a quick healing time, minimal to no discomfort, and can be performed on all skin types and colors.

What is the procedure?

There are different tools used for medical needling; in our office, the main device used is the FDA approved SkinPen.  Medical needling uses very fine stainless steel needles to create thousands of micro-channels in the skin which releases growth factors, promotes scarless wound healing, and gives greater penetration of topical solutions. The real key to needling is the healing response that the procedure stimulates.  Needling will always deliver much better results if combined with the proper topical nutrients.

How it works

There is no heat injury to the melanocyte with this procedure making the risk of hyperpigmentation very minimal.

There is no limit on how many treatments, but initially a series of 4-6 is usually recommended.  Treatments are generally done monthly.

Medical needling addresses fine lines & wrinkles, mild to moderate skin laxity, texture, color changes, pores, acne scars, traumatic or surgical scars, and hyperpigmentation.  All areas of the face, neck, and body can be treated.

Results are cumulative over time with medical needling.  A series of treatments is always recommended.  Patients love this procedure for overall skin rejuvenation and acne scars due to the results and minimal healing time.

Patients can also add PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) to their microneedling treatments. Microneedling with PRP is a cosmetic treatment that stimulates collagen production by rolling fine needles over the skin and applying platelets.
