4 Cosmetic Procedures that Millennials are Seeking

Millennials make up the nation’s largest living generation, and are opting for elective cosmetic surgical procedures earlier and in greater numbers than previous generations. This doesn’t just go for women, either.

A recent industry study found that 58% of men who said they would consider a cosmetic procedure were between the ages of 25-34.

The top reasons for electing to undergo a surgical or nonsurgical cosmetic procedure include wanting to appear younger, feeling better about themselves, wanting to look less tired or stressed, and to please their partner. Another reason often cited by men is wanting to remain competitive in their career.

In a study by the American Academy of Facial and Plastic Reconstructive Surgery, over 40 percent of surgeons reported that looking better in selfies on social media was a reason cited for getting plastic surgery.

Here are some of the surgical procedure that millennials are looking for and why:

Nose Reshaping
Rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, helps decrease bumps on the nose or corrects other abnormalities in the shape, creating a more symmetrical look. It can also correct problems associated with difficulty breathing.

Although this seems like one of the more life altering cosmetic surgeries, the millennial generation is not afraid of the negative stigma of cosmetic facial surgery, which makes this procedure one of the top procedures sought after by the younger generation.

Breast Augmentation or Reduction
Breast augmentation is a broad term used for the surgical procedure that can help make breasts more symmetrical in size or shape, restore the original shape after a pregnancy, weight loss, or breastfeeding, or help restore size and shape after breast cancer.

Likewise, reduction is used to create more proportionate breasts in women or decrease the appearance of breasts on men. Breast reduction surgery is often sought by men looking to correct gynecomastia, or the swelling of breast tissue due to hormonal imbalance.

This procedure tends to top the charts for all generations; however, millennials are no exception. For a generation that is driven by selfies on social media and beach bod pictures on Instagram, this procedure is the perfect way to get ready for swimsuit season and target areas of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. Especially, since the majority of new moms fall in the millennial generation.

Face and Lip Injectables
Injectable treatments such as fillers and wrinkle reducing injections like BOTOX® are on the rise in the millennial generation, largely due, again, to selfie culture. These short-term, minimally-invasive procedures are relatively affordable and do not require the long-term commitment that comes with going under the knife. That makes injectables the perfect temporary fix for students or young professionals wanting to change their appearance in a more discrete way.
