How it works
Breast reconstructive surgery using an implant means that we utilize a saline or silicone filled implantable device in order to reconstruct the breast back to the patients desired size.
Reconstructive surgery using an autologous or "flap" reconstructive method uses tissue that is transplanted from another part of the body most commonly from the abdomen. This method may also incorporate the use of a implant.
Nipple reconstruction is also something to consider when discussing breast reconstruction with your doctor.
It is important to note that breast reconstruction can help rebuild the shape of the breast, but will not restore sensation to the breast or nipple. A reconstructed breast may become sensitive to the touch in time, but will not be restored to its original sensitivity.
